The difference between medical scar patch and scar removal gel

Medical scar patch and Scar removal gel each have their own characteristics and uses in scar care. The following are the main differences between them:

Form and applicable scar type:

Medical scar patch: Mainly suitable for regular, tangible scar areas. It is used in the form of a patch, soft and flat, transparent, comfortable and durable.

Scar removal gel: More suitable for irregular, angular scars. It is usually a gel, liquid or patch containing polydimethylsiloxane, which has certain permeability and absorption.

Ingredients and functions:

The main ingredients of the two are the same, both are silicone gel. Their functions are to inhibit the proliferation of fibroblasts, and by utilizing the excellent water storage capacity of the silicone mold material, assist the skin to absorb more water, thereby inhibiting the regeneration of capillaries and reducing collagen deposition.

How to use:

Medical scar patch: Clean the scar area before use, then tear open the package and stick the sticky side on the clean scar. Scar patch should be used for at least 12 hours a day, preferably 24 hours a day, for 2 to 4 months.

Scar removal gel: Before use, the scar area should also be cleaned, and then a sterile cotton swab should be used to apply an appropriate amount of medicine evenly to the scar area. Depending on the type of scar removal cream, massage or waiting for the medicine to dry naturally may be required. Apply 2 to 3 times a day, and wash and dry the scar area before each application.

Time of use:

Medical scar patch: It must be used after the scab has detached from the wound and the wound has healed completely. It is usually used 1 to 2 weeks after the sutures are removed.

Scar removal gel: It is usually used 6 to 7 days after the scar begins to heal, but it should not be used too early to avoid local infection when the scar has not yet scabbed.
